FTTH Fiber Optic Pigtail

Fiber optic pigtails the typical use is to link the fiber optic cable with fiber optic equipment, the fiber optic pigtail with connector side is used to link the equipment, while the other side of the pigtail is melted together with the fiber cable, by melting together the fiber glasses, it can reach a minimum insertion loss. Common types of fiber optic pigtails are usually with 0.9mm fiber cable diameter, and usually installed inside ODF unit. most commonly used types are SC fiber optic pigtail, ST fiber optic pigtail,FC fiber optic pigail, LC fiber optic pigtail and E2000 fiber optic pigtail.

As we know, fiber optic cable assemblies are mainly with connectors and cables, so the fiber cable assembly names is related to the connector names, we call it LC fiber patch cord, because it is with LC fiber connector, here the words PC, UPC, APC also are related only to the fiber optic connectors and has nothing to do with fiber optic cables.

We have known that PC, UPC, APC is standard of the fiber optic connectors, PC, UPC, APC are short for: Physical Contact (PC), Ultra Physical Contact (UPC), and Angled Physical Contact (APC), they are actually the polish style of fiber optic ferrules. Below is a picture of the fiber optic ferrules. Unlike copper cables with copper thread in the connectors as connection media, fiber optic connectors are with these ceramic ferrules for connection, and different fiber optic connectors the ferrule size and length and polish styles are different, as can be seen on the picture. Such ferrules is inside the fiber optic connectors and with fiber glass from the fiber optic cable to plug into the ferrule for linking.

The different polish of the fiber optic connector ferrules result in different performance of them, mainly on the back reflection (return loss),.Generally, PC type is required at least 40dB return loss or higher, UPC is 50dB or higher, APC is 60dB or higher. (As we know, the higher the return loss the better the performance). Insertion loss of them all should be less than at least 0.3dB, the lower the insertion loss the better the performance. Single mode fiber optic cables can be with PC, UPC or APC polished connectors, while multimode there is no APC ones.

Our fiber optic patch cord and fiber optic cable assemblies are fully compliant or exceed the industry standards, for example, generally we require all cable assemblies insertion loss 0.2dB max.

9/125 fiber optic cables are typical type single mode fiber cables. It is widely used in outdoor cables that are usually used as backbones in the fiber optic network, and it also is used in indoor cables like patch cord assemblies. Here the measurement unit of the 9 and 125 is μm (micron), one meter is equal to one million micron. So you can imagine how small the 9/125 optical fiber is, it is much smaller in diameter than human hair.

As you may have noticed, outdoor 9/125 single mode fiber cables is rather big diameter, while the indoor 9/125 singlemode fiber is smaller diameter, but they are both 9/125 type cables. Here we would like to give a picture to illustrate what the “9” and “125” means.

We can see there are three layers of the cable. The 9 micron part refer to the center layer of the optical fiber, its diameter is 9micron. The 125 part is center layer together with the cladding layer; their total diameter is 125micron. Then there are other materials like strength unit surround them, and then the jacket of the cable. you can understand easily why different out shape cables can all be with 9/125 single mode fibers.

50/125 is one of the most commonly used multimode optical fiber; the other commonly used is 62.5/125 types. Here the 50 and 125 is measurement by the unit micron. One meter is equal to one million micron. Below is a picture to illustrate the basic model of 50/125 multimode fiber cables; you can identify what the 50 parts and 125 parts are.

There is a special kind 50/125 multimode fibers, which is called OM3 50/125. People usually refer 62.5/125 as the OM1 MMF, common type 50/125 MMF as OM2, OM3 is also 50/125, but it is different from OM2 because it support 10Gig data transmission. The OM3 50/125 fiber optic cable is also called laser optimized fiber cable. Both OM1 and OM2 multimode cables use the orange color jacket (standard practice for commonly used indoor multimode), OM3 use a special color, which is called Aqua.

Now we have OM4 50/125 and OM5 50/125 fiber cable assemblies too.

We supply a wide range of 50/125 fiber optic cable assemblies including OM2/OM3/OM4/OM5 cables; they feature the stable quality, good looking and very fast delivery. (Less than 10,000 pieces usually around 3 business days)

62.5/125 multimode optical fiber is widely used in multimode cables. 62.5 refer to the outer diameter of the multimode optical fiberglass core, 125 here means the outer diameter of the cladding, and the measurement unit is micron.

The 62.5/125 multimode fiber cable assemblies can be with various kinds of jacket, like OFNR, OFNP, LSZH, etc and the connector types are optional like SC, FC, LC, ST, MTRJ.62.5/125 multimode fiber is also used in outdoor cables. You know there is another multimode fiber cable, which is 50/125 multimodes, when you choose a multimode fiber cable; you need to make sure whether you need is 50/125 or 62.5/125, usually they are not compatible with each other.

62.5/125 multimode fiber optic cable products supplied by Huihong Technologies Limited is fully compatible with industrial standard and they are strictly tested during the production. We supply a wide range of 62.5/125 multimode fiber cable assemblies with competitive prices and fast delivery.
